Job Title: Senior Accountant

Job Purpose Statement

The job holder is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of financial reporting and comprehensive accounting activities within the company. This role ensures accuracy, completeness, and compliance of financial records and statements in accordance with accounting principles and regulatory requirements. This role involves:

  • Management of Suppliers and their payables
  • Customer refunds execution.
  • Inspection of project expenses and cost management processes
  • Maintain comprehensive book keeping
  • Ensure adherence to company policies as pertains the company procedures.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Supplier management: Assess the performance of suppliers to be able to set expectations for quality products and services as well as maintain good relationships with them.
  • Customer refunds: Reverse payments to customers where goods have been returned or services cancelled.
  • Project expense management: Manage, control, track and optimize expenses incurred during company operations.
  • Book keeping: Maintain records of company financial transactions on a regular basis.
  • Statutory management: Ensure compliance with statutory requirements such as PAYE, NSSF, NHIF, amongst others.
  • Management accounts: Prepare reports as pertains the company operations to help with decision making both short-term and long-term.
  • People management: Manage the staff within my team as per HR standards and guidance.
  • Any other responsibilities assigned.

Main Activities

Supplier management

  • Oversee the timely processing of supplier invoices.
  • Adjust supplier statements and rectify any inconsistencies.
  • Ensure compliance with policies of the company when transacting as well as conformity with duly signed contractual obligations.

Customer refunds

  • Manage customer refunds efficiently and effectively.
  • Observe and address disputes that may arise as a result of customer refunds.
  • Keep records of refunds.
  • Ensure that company policies are adhered to when it comes to customer refunds.

Project expense management

  • Monitor project expenses to ensure that they orient with budget checks.
  • Prepare and examine reports in relation to project expenses.
  • Provide discernments and suggestions for control of costs.
  • Work with other team leaders to ensure errorless and timely expense reporting.

Book keeping

  • Maintain errorless and up to date general ledger entries.
  • Conduct consistent or constant bank reconciliation and other financial statements.
  • Preparation and posting of journal entries as and when necessary.

Statutory Management

  • Prepare statutory documents in accordance with the law.
  • Submit these documents within the stipulated deadlines to avoid penalties at all costs.
  • Stay appraised on any legislation changes and ensure that accounting practices of the company contemplate these changes.

Management accounts

  • Preparation of managements accounts for the group
  • Plan and have managements accounts reviewed and discussed by 10th of every month.
  • Give assistance in preparation of budgets and estimates.

People management

  • Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff.
  • Provide training and support to ensure accurate and efficient accounting practices.

Other duties assigned from time to time.


Qualification And Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting/Finance
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPAK)
  • Masters in Accounts or Finance or related field is an added advantage.
  • Membership to a professional body.
  • At least 5 years’ post-qualification, practical and progressive experience, 2 years of which should be at supervisory level.
  • Experience with Financial Management Software such as Enterprise Resource planning (ERP), QuickBooks and advanced excel skills.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial regulations, accounting standards and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to work with other departments and senior management.
